2025 marked the centenary of the birth of Oriol Bohigas (Barcelona, 1925–2021), architect, urbanist, educator, writer, and cultural agitator — one of the most influential figures in Catalan intellectual and urban life of the twentieth century. To commemorate this anniversary, family members, friends, and institutions came together to launch Ciutat Bohigas, a series of activities conceived not as a closed tribute but as an open conversation about his work and thought.
Ciutat Bohigas is grounded in a conviction: Bohigas’s relevance is not nostalgic but active. The debates he championed — on the form of the city, the role of design in collective life, the critical function of architecture, and the relationship between culture and politics — remain urgent. For this reason, the event does not limit itself to looking back, but instead proposes a re-reading of his ideas in light of contemporary challenges.
Through exhibitions, talks, publications, and other formats, Ciutat Bohigas explores the many facets of a figure who moved with equal intensity between architectural projects and opinion pieces, between the lecture hall and public office, between Barcelona and the wider world. A figure who, above all, understood culture as a commitment and the city as a way of life.
